Athletic events: sport, gender and mentalized bodies

Abstract

In this paper I intend to deepen from Gender Studies in the mind-body relationship in those areas where segregation by sex is usually justified according to the widespread idea that a genitality explains the binary distribution of certain psychological states and behaviors. In particular, I address the current Olympic regulation and how it is legitimized by the causal link between testosterone and athletic ability. I will incorporate the idea of events and of mentalized bodies to reinterpret this link within the framework of gender regulations.
